THE PROBLEM & OPPORTUNITY
Raving is a way to let loose and connect with others through a shared love of music. However, when approached carelessly or attended with the wrong company, it can quickly become uncomfortable or even dangerous.
Rooted in the core values of rave culture: peace, love, unity, and respect, Ravrrr increases compatibility between you, the music you love, and the people you attend events with while prioritizing safety on the dance floor. By encouraging better crowd awareness and connections, it prevents unsafe conditions like crowd crushes and creates a more positive experience for everyone. It’s more than an event guide: it’s nurturing a community that uplifts each other.

DESIGN SYSTEM

The core color palette of neon green, pink, and blue was chosen intentionally, as they are defining colors of the late ’90s and early 2000s art and rave culture. I picked this era for a couple reasons. The early 2000s represented a moment of retro-futurism, when technology was viewed through an optimistic lens rather than a dystopian one.
SCREEN EXAMPLES
The drug/substance filter is unique to this app and is great for those who feel unsafe or annoyed attending with those under the influence of certain substances. The “Only Show Sober Ravers” toggle allows control over who is shown on the app. Users can also define what they’re looking for, whether it’s friendship or romance, so intentions and boundaries are transparent from the start.

The crowd crush alert is another feature not currently offered by major EDM apps, which is a huge gap given how often festivals oversell tickets, creating dangerous conditions when popular artists take the stage. By alerting users in real time, it prevents additional people from moving into the high risk areas and gives them a clear heads up to avoid certain zones altogether.

Each profile is highly personalized, highlighting your favorite genres to help you connect with others who share your taste. Major EDM genres are color-coded throughout the app, allowing users to recognize them at a glance and navigate more intuitively. Your profile also serves as a central hub for your activity, including posts you’ve shared and events you’ve attended.

The events section is a powerhouse. With the show finder, you can combine location, genre, and event-type filters to find exactly what you’re in the mood for.

You can view the lineup schedule in two ways: a collapsed grid format or a vertical format. The grid view is designed for festivals or multi-stage events, allowing you to see the entire schedule on a single screen. The vertical view focuses on one stage at a time and includes color-coded dots that indicate the primary genres of each performing artist. This unique addition is small yet makes it far easier to decide who you might enjoy seeing, especially at large events with lots of artists you may not have time to listen to beforehand.

The “Connect” section is designed for meeting new people and staying connected with your existing rave fam. The Rave Compass makes it easy to locate those you’re attending events with so you can find them in a sea of people.

No one wants to risk getting scammed or pay unnecessary fees to third-party platforms like Ticketmaster. Ravrrr can sync tickets from other platforms in order to sell them directly in the app with a secure escrow. Both tickets and payments are fully verified for a safe, seamless experience for everyone involved.

In our modern society, rave culture is more important than ever because it’s a way to be empowered by technology that brings us together, instead of feeling isolated due to the technology that pushes us apart. Due to it being reflective of the late 90s and early 2000s, this color palette also appeals to the majority of current ravers: Millennials and elder Gen Z.

When signing up for a social and music platform, it’s key to curate the experience to make sure you’re matched with the right people and the right shows. The drug/substance filter is unique to this app and is for those who feel unsafe or annoyed attending with those under the influence of certain substances. The “Only Show Sober Ravers” toggle allows the user to control who is shown to them. I felt this feature was essential after witnessing firsthand how quickly crowds can become unsafe and people can get trapped or injured. By alerting users in real time, it helps prevent additional people from moving into the high risk areas and gives them a clear heads up to avoid certain zones altogether.
